When I shifted from text-based genres to visually-based genres, I could not differentiate them and did not work on it well at first. Even though I took many pictures, I still focused more on the written words instead of visual expression, and I still need the help of written words to express my idea. At first, I even added the captions of the pictures, because I did not know how to use only visual-based genres to finish this assignment. I was afraid that the audience could not understand the meaning behind my photos, so I wanted to write all the meaning of the photos for them. Then my professor gave some advice and she believed that my photos were too literal, and they were not abstract at all. Thus, I took some new photos, and searched online to learn how to make good visually-based genres. I asked my friends’ advice to see if they like my photos, then I emailed the professor and asked her if she loved my picture. Unfortunately, she still thought that my photos were literal. I felt so upset at that time, then I decided to go outside and to see if I could get some good ideas. By observing the fallen leaves, I have the good ideas and I would like to focus on the observation of their colors. The shift from text-based genre to the visual-based genre is not easy, but I enjoy the process of it.

What changes when we move from a text-only publishing realm to a text-focused realm?
For the text-only publishing realm, the writers only focus on the contents of the story without considering other things such as format. It is better for the writers to concentrate on their writing work and focus on their stories, however, it also has some disadvantages. Writers cannot generate their creativity and the text-only publishing realm limits their ability to reach out to other fields, such as arts and music. For the text-focused realm, the contents of the writing work is also the most important thing. However, the writers also need to consider about the format and other visual parts to make the writing more colorful. For example ,the writers can change their text-only publishing work into a documentary with captions and music. In this way, the audience can understand the writing work in a deeper way. Especially for some profound ideas, the visual parts can help the audience become more clear about the contents. However, the writers also need to spend extra time on other things besides the writing part. Their roles of writers may change into the roles of editor. They need to decide which visual way can express their idea best, and they also need to compare the time cost to fulfill each visual plan. In conclusion, the text- focused realm needs people to spend more time on it, but it enriches the writing contents and attracts more audience. Afridi:
Afridi describes her memoir based on childhood memory. Even though her family left Pakistan when she was twelve, and then she moved to a lot of places, she could not free her memory from Pakistan. In 1971, her family drove to the Kohat Military Hospital since Afridi had an ear infection. During the driving, East Pakistan was about to bomb them. It was dangerous, and they fled from the car to hide in the dugout. Then, Afridi’s father plucked her from her mother, and hugged her mother into his chest. This moment became one of the most important memories of her in the future, and this event reminded her of Pakistan. Although Pakistan encountered various calamities, people are still tough enough to seek and look back. As Afridi states in the memoir, “[she suspects] that incident, its retelling over the years, and [her] own subconscious recreation of it, have had something to do with making [her] who [she is].” In this way , Pakistan has already shaped Afridi. It can also refer to Tuan’s idea that when people are in the vulnerable situation, it is easier for them to change space into place. Since Afridi was in a dangerous situation at that time, she evoked a new sense of place towards Pakistan. Nabokov: Nabokov describes his memoir based on his thoughts about time and his childhood memory. When he was seven years old, his parents held his hands side by side, and they spent their time together. Between his parents, he strutted and trotted. Besides, he also began to be aware of time on his mother’s birthday, and he realized that time is important for people to keep memory. Among these events happened in the past, Nabokov formed a memoir about thinking of time and place about people. When he realized the limit of time, he was in a somewhat vulnerable condition, which was called chronophobia. For example, he states that “a young chronophobiac who experienced something like panic when looking for the first time at homemade movies that had been taken a few weeks before his birth..” Since he would find that his friends and family members could live happily without him, he would be afraid of the influence of time. This example was related to Tuan’s idea about vulnerable condition and place. Because of these memories, Nabokov regarded the place he spent with his family as his place. Or in other words, he regarded his family members as his place, which is also related to the Tuan’s idea. Cover Letter for V2 of the persuasive essay October 3rd Yihan Ding Dear Professor Lauren, When I looked back over my private writing, I felt really encouraged but a little bit bothered. I was impressed that I had many good ideas to construct the entire essay, but I was not sure if I could explain my complicated idea clearly. Specifically, the argument of my essay was aimed at complicated relationship between place and immigrants, and I would like to analyze this argument in three aspects. I argued that some people could develop sense of place through intimate experiences and emotions, and this view was created through citing Tuan and Price’s perspectives in their readings. Besides, I also used the example of Jhumpa Lahari’s experience in “Rhode Island” to demonstrate that people could change space into place through experiences and emotions. Furthermore, I also argued that some other people determined which space they changed into place depending on traditions, family members and national pride. In order to interpret this point of view, I used personal instances at Emory to explain the reason that I could not regard the United States as my place. More importantly, I also explained the idea that place might influence people’s characteristics and lifestyles, and people could integrate into the local community by the effect of place. In order to demonstrate this standpoint, I described an instance of a Chinese American who changed her lifestyles and mindset by the influence of her place. By illustrating this complicated argument with logic sequence, I indeed believed the essay was like moving from private to public. Since my audiences did not read the assigned readings before, if I did not interpret my idea logically, they would have trouble understanding the context of my essay. Thus, I needed to move my essay from private to public. It made a big difference in the way how I wrote, because I needed to explain the difference between place and space at the beginning of the essay, to make sure that people understand the context. For example, I interpreted that “space has a lack of emotional uniqueness, and it refers more to a location on the map in terms of geographic meaning. Place, on the other hand, contains people’s experiences, emotions and memories, so the meaning of place is unique to different people.” By illustrating the difference of place and space, the audiences could understand the essay more clearly.Otherwise, they will be confused since most people do not understand how to differentiate place and space. It was like doing all those short sketches, because before I started writing the essay, I had already divided it into different parts and I was so clear which stories should be used as the relevant examples. I did not get myself to jump in or did one burst of writing and then moved on to another, because I wrote down the skeleton of my essay in advance and I followed the instructions to write it logically. Since the professor asked us to use scholarly readings as an annotated bibliography, I thought the genre of this essay should be academic. My main point was to explain the complicated relationship between immigrants and place in my essay, and I tried to clarify this relationship to my audience. I felt that the idea of my essay was great, because I combined the views of the authors and my own personal views to make a comparison . I was not satisfied with the structure, but the professor seemed to be satisfied with my structure. My professor pointed out some problems that I did not explain it clearly to the audience, so I added some new sentences to explain it as clearly as possible. For example, I changed all the contents of the conclusion part. Before I got the advice from my professor, I wrote many distracted thoughts in the end, because I would like to deepen the meaning of the essay to a new level. I pointed out the problem that immigrants could not integrate themselves into the place, and they had difficulty in self-identification. However, as a conclusion part, these thoughts seemed not relevant to the entire structure and idea of the essay. Thus, instead of raising a new problem at the ending part, I summarized the previous idea and deepened the argument. I wanted to know from my audience if they indeed understood the relationships between different parts of my essay. Overall, I believed that my persuasive essay was successful. I hoped every audience would have a new impression of immigrants and place after reading my essay. Respectfully yours, Yihan Ding Citation:

Basically, Tuan is warning that the difference between place and space should depend on people’s experiences. In other words, Tuan believes that people will cultivate sense of place through their personal experiences. In making this comment, Tuan urges us to analyze personal experiences, especially intimate experiences such as being sick. Tuan is corroborating the age-old adage that home is the best place for people to recover themselves when they are in the vulnerable conditions Tuan’s point is that people will more easily to cultivate sense of place or home when they are in the vulnerable conditions. The essence of Tuan’s argument is that people can depend on intimate experiences to define the difference between place and space, since people will more easily develop sense of place when they are in vulnerable conditions. Template TS 129-138 In other words, Tuan does not realize that there are some more important elements to decide if it is a place or it is a space. What Tuan’s idea really means is that people can cultivate sense of place through personal experiences, but it is no the decisive element. My point is not that people cannot cultivate sense of place through personal experiences, but personal experiences are not the most decisive element to define place and space. Ultimately, then, my goal is to demonstrate that there are some more important elements, such as family members, traditions and spirits, to determine if it is a place or it is a space. Exercise 2 Page 51 Yes, I have quoted some sources from assigned readings. I have integrated the quotation into my own text. I have introduced it by combining my own idea and views. I have explained the difference between place and space, and how different authors believe the solutions to differentiate them. Page 46: Tuan states, “people should depend on personal experiences to differentiate place and space.” As the prominent philosopher Tuan puts it, “People can cultivate sense of place through personal experiences.” According to Tuan, “people are easily to cultivate sense of place when they are in vulnerable conditions.” Template (68-77)
I agree that intimate experiences can change space into place because my experience at Emory University confirms it. Price is surely right about the ways to differentiate space and place because, as she may not be aware, recent studies have shown that emotion is one crucial characteristic of place while space is lack of emotional uniqueness. Tuan’s theory of the definition of experience is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of how experience is related to the difference between place and space. Those unfamiliar with this school of thought may be interested to know that it basically boils down to the exploration of biology and psychology. Template (78-91) Although I grant that Tuan’s article focuses too much on the definition of experience, I still maintain that it explains clearly the difference between space and place. Proponents of Tuan’s idea are right to argue that experiences are important to decide if it is a place or a space. But they exaggerate when they claim that experiences are more crucial than emotions to define the definitions of space and place. While it is true that intimate experience can make people have the sense of place, it does not necessarily follow that vulnerable experience can successfully change space to place every time. On the one hand, I agree with Tuan that intimate experience will make people develop the sense of place. But on the other hand, I still insist that there are more important elements to change space into place. Template (92-101) Although the difference between place and space may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today’s concern over sense of place. Ultimately, what is at stake here is if the methods of differentiating space and place are correct and accurate. These findings have important implications for the broader domain of sense of place or self-identity. If we are right about the ways to differentiate place and space, then major consequences follow for how to adapt to the process of globalization. These conclusions/This discovery will have significant applications in the field of psychology as well as in the field of biology. Exercise 2 on Page 77 1.I have engage three different perspectives towards the persuasive essay. 2. I may include the opposite perspectives of the assigned readings. 3.When I summarize the views, I will point out which part I agree with the opinions of the assigned readings while which part I disagree with the assigned readings. 4.Yes, I use a lot of clear voice-signaling phrases. 5. When I describe at any given moment, I will alert readers about whose voice I am speaking in by embedding a reference to the author’s argument in my own sentences. 6. I think to make sure that at every point my readers can clearly tell who is saying that by using voice-identifying devices is best suited for this text. Exercise 2 on Page 91 Yes, because I disagree with some points in the assigned readings, so I have already anticipated the likely objections and explained them. I have attributed the objections to the author, and I have represented the objections fairly. I have answered them well enough, because most of them are based on my personal experience which are reliable.I could use the templates suggested in this chapter, and the introduction of a naysayer strengthen my argument, because it will demonstrate that my argument is impeccable. Exercise 2 on Page 101 My point here is that people can use experience and emotions to change space into place, should interest those who did not notice the different meanings of them before. Beyond this limited audience, however, my point should speak to anyone who cares about the larger issue of self-identity. TS (P 67) Exercise:
Generally, people do not notice the difference between place and space, and most of them regard them as same definitions. However, some people have different views of it and they demonstrate their idea in the scholarly articles. Instead of differentiating space and place in a superficial way, these authors explore their meaning in a profound aspect. For example, Price in the article “Place” claims that place consists of more sophisticated meanings than space. Place contains people’s emotions such as affection and respect, and space is lack of emotional uniqueness and significance. I agree that place is the social product and people hold emotions towards place, because my experience at Emory University confirms it. Before I went to America last year, I only regarded America as a location that I could find on the map. However, after I have studied here for almost one year and integrated into the local community, I developed a deep emotion towards this country. Instead of being unknown and unfamiliar to this country, I begin to treat it as place rather than space. Price’s theory of place is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of how to find out the crucial difference between place and space. Besides, I also agree that Tuan is surely right about how to differentiate place. His point that needs emphasizing since so many people still be unclear about it. Tuan analyzes experience in order to explain place. He believes that place depends on experience to define itself. Specifically, Tuan explains the range of experience or knowledge by analyzing the senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing and vision. Tuan believes that experience enables people to have strong emotions towards a place, and his idea at this point is similar to the idea of Price. Tuan argues that place and objects are defined by people’s experience, and their meaning become more concrete comparing with space. Furthermore, Tuan also emphasizes the importance of intimate experience. Specifically, when people are sick or injured, it is easier for them to create the sense of home and they can recover themselves under solicitous care. I agree that vulnerable experience can make people have more sense of place or home, because my experience at Emory University can also confirm it. When I was sick at the beginning of last semester, I really missed my home and my parents, and I felt that I did not want to stay at the school any more. Fortunately, my college friends really care about me and they brought the medicine and some fruits to comfort me. One of my friends even went to one class that she did not take to bring me the handouts. At time time, I felt that I could also treat Emory as my home. Tuan also explains that although it is not immediately acceptable, some people regard their family members or other intimate people as place . Although it is a controversial statement, I agree with Tuan’ s idea because I indeed feel that my family members and my close friends can make any space become place or home. In conclusion, I agree with both Tuan and Price’s idea about space and place. BW 239 Cover Letter September 16th Briefly proposal for the persuasive essay Yihan Ding Dear Professor Lauren, For the topic of my persuasive essay, I chose it for the following reaons. The guideline for our assignment asks us to write the topic narrow and focused, so I want to concentrate on one group of people or one attribute of the place to narrow the topic. Then it also asks us to write it according to the assigned articles, I think I need to write the connections between my essay and the readings. I found myself believing my assertions more and more as I wrote, because I had the clear topic and I prepared the relevant sources to support it. When persuading or arguing, I found myself putting more emphasis on why my own view was better. Because I also supported other views and my thought was created from their views, I did not think that their ideas were wrong. This affects me to read and explore other people’s views first and to analyze it to create new thoughts. I find myself more comfortable working with short persuasive pieces, because I can become more concentrated on my work. When I was writing the long argument, I think I need a lot more evidences to support it. As for the short argument, I do not need to give much more examples. Respectfully yours, Yihan Ding Template in TS:
Introducing what "they say": A number of authors have recently suggested that the “place” and the “space” are different in their definitions. It has become common today to differentiate the definitions in the psychological and biological aspect. In Tuan’s article, it suggests that people need to create intimacy experience to change the “space” to the meaningful “place”. Standard Views: People have always believed that the “place” and the “space” do not have significant differences. Conventional wisdom has it that both “place” and “space” mean the location in the geographical way. Common sense seems to dictate that people explain “place” and “space” in the superficial aspect. The standard way of thinking about the “place” and the “space” has it that “place” is concrete while “space” is more abstract. It is often said that “place” contains the sense of belongings and intimacy experience that people have. My whole life I have heard it said that “place” is more emotional and meaningful. You would think that hometown or your parents as your “place”. Many people assume that it is not acceptable to regard the human persons as the “place”. Something you say: I’ve always believed that “space” and “place” have the same meaning. When I was a child, I used to think that both of the terms refer to the geological location. Although I should know better by now, I cannot help thinking that “space” does not have the difference as the “place” does. At the same time that I believe that if we regard the differences between the “place” and the “space” in the depth, I also believe that people need to have intimacy experience in the “space” and then to change it to their “place”, which has the specific meaning. Something implied or assumed: Although none of them have ever said so directly, the authors in the scholarly books have often given me the impression that the “place” and the “space” are different. One implication of Tuan’s article is that people need to create intimacy experience in one space and then change it to the place. Although Tuan does not say so directly, she apparently assumes that “space” is lack of experience and emotions. While they rarely admit as much, Tuan’s idea often take for granted that experience by using all the senses and minds can find one unique place to people. On ongoing debate: In discussion of the difference between “place” and “space”, one controversial issue has been occurred that if people need to depend on their experiences in one location to differentiate the place and the space. On the one had, some people argue that both space and place refer to the geographical location. On the other hand, some people, such as Tuan, contend that without deep experiences, people cannot change the abstract space into the concrete place. Others even maintain that space and place are totally different. My own view is that place and space is relevant but the meaning of them is different. To something that has already been said: I really liked Tuan’s point about that people need to create intimacy experience to change the space into the place. I ‘d add that people learn unconsciously from their experience and have the memories for the place. I take your point, Tuan, that place is more concrete while space is more abstract. Activity One:
Now I just finished reading the articles of Tuan, and I think it is not so much boring as I read his introduction for the first time. Probably, maybe he is so academic and the article is so scholarly, and it is not as emotional as the article that Price wrote. After all, I think all of the articles mainly talk about how we define the meaning of “place”, and it is more similar to tell people how to find your social position and your belongings. If the assignment does not ask us to write the scholarly essay, I think it will be much easier to talk about “place”. Before I left China and the semester began, I saw the last movie in the summer vacation, and the name of it was called The Continent. It was really popular in China, and most of young people went to the cinema to see it. It talked about the similar topic, the “place”, and the experience that the characters had after they left their hometown. The whole movie mainly focused on the journey and the people they met on the road. At the end of this story, the character returned to his hometown. It was just like the saying in Wizard of Oz, “East, West, home is the best.” After all, home is the pause of the movement, we cannot leave it forever. Activity Two: The article of Tuan is really scholarly, and sometimes I suspect that he should be the psychologist and the biologist to write about the article like that. He prefers to explain “place” and “space” in a somewhat academic way. He believes without the experiences, it is impossible for people to define “space” as a “place”. “Place” contains the emotions, such as affections, respect and belongings for people, and it is a pause in movement that it contains the memories people have for this “space”. Even though some of the memories are not seemly important, such as relaxing ourselves in the armchair after finishing one day’s work, they create the important intimacy between people and the “place”. When people return or live in the “place”, they can recall the memories and obtain the familiarity about this “place”. When people have a sick or become vulnerable, the intimacy is much easier to be created, and they regard home to be the comfort and safe place to recover themselves. Sometimes, people also treat the human person as “place”. For example, children usually treat their parents as “place”, young lovers treat each other as their “place”, and some musicians treat “music” as “place”. This fact indicts that “place” means different to various people, and it has its unique meaning. It is hard to predict “place” or to plan to create the “place”, and the process of defining “place” needs intimacy experience. Activity Three: Activity Four: It is hard to write things invisible, because I cannot check the writing I am working on. For the topic “place”, I think all the authors want to emphasize the meaning of it, the unconscious meaning. Although some people may notice, that when we think of “place”, it will remind us of the home and our parents, they do not have a specific definition of the “place”. Why people have emotions or other different reactions when they are in these “places”? It is suppossed that people have experiences there, and they have some memories theere. They have the memories of touching, smelling, looking, hearing in this place, and they are the components of the experience. Maybe people cannot stay at their places for some time, but the “place” has become the symbols. Whenever they recalled it, they still regard it as their personal “place”. Especially, when people are in sick or in other vulunerable situations, they will create the intimacy relationship with “place”. It is like the place that we can feel comfortable and safe, and we do not need to worry things outside of this place. It is more like a real world, because we duplicate daily life there. Although our home contains the ordinary things, such as the desks, the beds, the armchiars or other goods, these goods provide us relaxing and happiness and familarity. Maybe it is not perfect, but it is our own place. Activity Five: What is the place? Generally, it refers to the geographic meaning, and it means the location, the position, and it is almost same as the meaning of space. However, now it has the more specific definition. Unlike “space” which is lack of experiences and other emotional significance, “place” refers to some intimacy experience between the ordinary objects and people. For example, when people are sick, they have to stay at home to recover themselves. During the process of curing, people obtain the sense of dependence and frailty, but they also have the feeling of familiarity and comfort. Unlike animals such as apes and baboon, when these animals are sick, they have to be abandoned or be deserted. So, home is unique to human beings where they can recover themselves and to obtain the deep sentiment. In some depth, a human person can also be inferred to “place”. When our loved relatives or friends leave us, we will have the feelings of emptiness, although we are still in the same space as usual. Besides, “permanence” is also important to place. When people stay with the right person together, lastingness has its meaning to place. How can people regard a human person as their “place”? It depends on intimate exchange and people need to have deep intimate satisfactions with each other, and we need to admit their worth. Sometimes, even the uncomfortable feelings or embarrassing feelings can create the intense emotion for one place. It indicates the importance of experience with the combination of all the senses, and people need to rely on the intimacy experience to define “place”. Activity Six: When I am writing this blog and reading the articles of Tuan, I am thinking one important problem. What is the meaning of “place” to me? It is a difficult question since I cannot define my personal place right now. I would like to say that America is my place, but I do not think that I have build the intimacy relationship with the community here. I would like to say that China is my place, but I return to it annually and I even begin to lose the memories of the traditions in this country. I cannot imagine what will happen in the future after I stay at America for more years. In the article of Tuan, he also explained that sometimes people also regard a human person as “place”. I agree with this idea, even though it is not acceptable for some people. I think my parents and my friends are my “place”, but most of them are away from me, and they are not in the same country as I am. After I graduate from the college, the friends I encounter at school will also choose different spaces to develop themselves. Perhaps we will not meet each other for a long time, and we cannot connect with each other as regularly as we do now. “Place” needs the element of permanence, and it is so pathetic that the distances will remote us. For international students, I think we endure a lot, because we cannot have a definition of our place, and even when we realize the concept of the place, we have to worry about the distances. Like the last sentence in Tuan’s article, thoughts destroy the experiences. Activity Eleven: I have a very good idea of what is the definition of place according to the articles I read. I want to explain the summary of the article and express my personal understanding of the article. In starting to write this, the cluster of information I wrote down on the paper is really helpful. I think I did well in emphasizing that experience is important to define place. If I were to revise it some more, I would try to explain things in a more logical way. I think the points in the blog are not so clear, especially he relationships between different points. I did not include the specific meaning of home and hometown which it appears in the article. I would also like to share my thoughts about my hometown, such as my experiences and senses. However, since I also consider about the changes of my place, or the hometown, I pose the question towards it at the end of the blog. I think the article of Tuan is very scholarly, and he analyzes everything in the aspect of psychology and biology. However, I think the comparison part is not so clear. Especially for the introduction of Tuan’s article, he spent much more time in explaining the meaning of experience. Activity One: Free writing
Since this activity asks us to write anything freely, I think it is a good way to talk about my life here and my pressure here. Actually, I treat this activity as a way to relax myself. I think “sophomore” is really different from “freshman”, and some of my friends even think “sophomore” is similar to “suffer more”. I really agree with them. Everyday, I think I have a lot of stuffs to worry about, such as what major I should finally decide to choose, what courses I choose to learn in order to keep high GPA and meet the needs for GER. Also, I need to worry about somethings about daily life, such as the problem that if I should return back to home on winter vacation. I think I rely on other people too much. Actually, I do not travel alone. Every time, I travel with my friend at Emory from Beijing, and this fact causes me to lose the ability to make plans and find the airport gates. When I travel with my friends on vacations, they design the routes and find the hotels and restaurants. Now, it is my turn to consider about my life. Many people think that accounting can help people, especially international student to find a job in America, but actually I do not really love it. The problem is that, I cannot find one thing that I am crazy about. If I do not learn business courses, I am also not good at math and science classes. About arts classes, I think it is difficult for me to find a job here. I am always wondering if I do not come to America and study in China, what will I design for my life? I think maybe I will learn some arts classes such as literature or laws, and I can go home every vacation instead of worrying about the high cost. However, it is the way I choose, so I think I should not become regretful for my decision. I really want to have a happy life here. After all, life is always hard, like Leon in the film says. Activity Two: Focused Free writing I think for this activity I just need to follow the instructions on the book and choose to answer their questions. About a time I think writing is particularly well, I believe it must the time I wrote about novels. At high school, I wrote about many novels on the forum, and I actually earned some money from it . Although the work is also hard, because I need to consider about the advice from the audience, and sometimes I need to look up in the professional books to make sure that I do not make some mistakes, especially when I wrote some stories which have the backgrounds of historical China. However , I really enjoyed it, and I think maybe I cannot write the similar things now, because I cannot have the similar peaceful mind to write about things. About bad writing, I think I am not satisfied with writings in SAT and some college essays, such as some research paper. I think they are really boring, and I need to spend a lot of time on it without relaxing. If the topic the teacher chose that I am not interested in, it is the really hard time for me to enjoy writing. Besides, I think if I wrote something in a hurry, it is also hard for me to write some excellent products. I think a wonderful time for me to write is to with some relaxing music and food, and talking about some interesting things. For example, after I watch the movies, I always love to write some notes or remarks online. Activity Three: Clustering or Mapping Writing Diary, notes, blogs, letters, texts, wechat Writers, earn money, novels, I used to be a free-lance writer on the forum. I love writing compositions at high school, although now I think some of them are really silly. Image of summer vacation. Travel novel? Reading on the beach. What about research paper? I do not like biology research paper...about 5000 words I think environmental science is great. We can draw pictures on the journal. I really love detective stories, but I am not good at writing them...it needs strong logic. I hope I got A for the writing class this semester... After all, I am not good at math and science and I am not good at business.. Maybe... Activity Four: Invisible Writing OK, althouh it is invisival writing so I do not care about spelling or other things .Now Iam sitting around the table, and I am using my computer. I think I prefer to beome silent when I write things, but I really need some music..I do not know if I write every words correctly..It is really heard because English is not my first language. I think to focuse on it or I will write something wrong. I cannot imagine how blind people do if they cannot see anything. My roomate is near me, and I thin she has a cold...She has a lot of homework just like me... And I really do not know what else I can say in this activity. I hope I can go to bed soon because I really need enough sleep ... Activity Five: Public Free writing I am Yihan Ding, and I think some of my classmates have already known me because I am from the same country as most of them are. I also think that maybe Professor Lauren has already known me because I am not really good at some technological things and I cannot deal with my blogs. On the first day I make some mistakes when I wrote the blogs and the format was really wield...I tried to figure out it for three hours, and my fiend helped me to organize it in one minute. At that time, she said she believed that I was really not good at these things. And she said that I must make my professor really impressive. I am proud of being a writer, because I want to tell interesting stories to other people. But I am not interested in some boring essays... Such as the research paper...I am really worried about it, and I think reading may help me to become a good writer in my class. I think different cultures can also make contributions to the learning community, because the topic of this semester is “place”... Activity Six: Process Writing I think I really need to improve my memory, and I really mean it. It is really annoying that I cannot remember people’s names, birthdays, telephone numbers. Sometimes it is really impolite, but I really do not forget it on purpose. Today I have my first class at lab, and the teacher asked us to talk with each other and wrote down other people’s names.. And I asked one person’s name twice because I did not remember I asked her at the first time ... Also, I was always lost on campus..GPS is my best friend... |
